Vermont Autumn

Vermont Autumn, stained glass mosaic, 36″ x 36″ (37.5″x37.5″ framed) ~Available

This piece is inspired by Vermont’s legendary fall foliage. In some areas of the state, the reds are particularly vibrant and shiny – seeing this in person is pure magic. I wanted to show a view of the mountains disappearing in all directions into the distant cloudy sky. In my landscape, the sky is covered in semi dark clouds but there is still enough light to illuminate the the brilliant carpet of trees covering the mountains below. In my mosaic, the green conifers and half the red trees are created with iridescent glass which shimmers and glows in the light.

Detail of the trees in different light.
In this photo you can see the progress on the first layer of the trees in the foreground.
Each tree was carefully cut, shaped by hand and fitted into its appropriate space as the forest grew upward and into the distance.

The mosaic is grouted in black which creates a wonderful contrast with the colorful glass giving it a more dramatic effect.
My partner Kyle framing the mosaic in red oak stained in english chestnut and finished in satin.
