Impression of a Colorado Fall

Impression of a Colorado Fall, framed stained glass mosaic, 36″ x 36″ ~SOLD

This landscape has been inspired by my impression of the changing, vibrant aspen trees in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where I live. Aspens live in large colonies and many share one root system so they change colors as a large group. That’s one of the reasons that the fall foliage is so incredible in the mountains here. The golden trees are greatly contrasted by the conifers. While the colors transition from green to yellow, the barren rocky peaks begin getting snow peaked which creates a wonderful accent to the lively landscape.

On the left you can see my concept sketch and on the right are a few of my glass choices for the trees.
Here I am arranging my hand cut circles into a gentle sun-lit slope covered in dry grasses and plants.
Each tree is drawn free hand, is hand cut and fitted one by one.
The mosaic progressing ~ each mountain is meticulously crafted.
The taped mosaic is sectioned off into smaller more manageable sections for easier gluing – its like a very simple puzzle.

The last part of the gluing process.
Grouting.
