In early September, I completed my newest mosaic sculpture “The Passage”. It is a 7ft tall hand-sculpted door covered in a handmade stained glass mosaic I created with accents of handmade ceramic tiles I also created in the studio. The flower motifs are inspired by the Polish Folk Art ‘Wycinanki’. Below you can see my initial concept for the project. The color palette changed but most of the project stayed true to my vision.
I create large outdoor sculpture as my secondary passion and have expanded from beyond mosaics to large, welded steel forms. These works are exhibited each year in juried annual art exhibits though out Colorado as well as permanently installed in the 40 acre sculpture park I am building near the Great Sand Dunes National Park. My ceramic sculpture “Lotus Emerges” has just been installed at our 40 Acre Mystic Valley Sculpture Park in Mosca, Colorado near the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Last year it was installed for the Annual Outdoor Art Exhibit ‘Artscape’ in nearby Alamosa – the central city of the San Luis Valley.
